Simple kids’ Peanuts bathroom

I had 3 thngs in mind when trying to put together a bathroom for the kids:
1. It had to be simple, free of extra things that would get broken or need to be cleaned.
2. It had to be designed in a way that would be applealing to boys and girls at any age, since it would be shared by my kids and foster kids.
3. It had to be extremely inexpensive.

Mission accomplished.

I chose red, black and white because those colors are usually associated with simple designs. Plus, boys and girls at any age can enjoy those colors. They are pretty gender neutral. You remember this.

I used my own artwork on one wall. The other blank wall will have 2 towel racks, but I havent hung it yet, and I was just so excited to show this!

When I found this Carlie Brown” shower curtain, Iris was beyond excited, with her Charlie Brown obsession and all… But I think I was actually more excited than she was. Its like I had been waiting for the perfect shower curtain and alll of a sudden, without looking, I FOUND IT! Its so perfect. So perfect.

Oh, that Snoopy, hes such a riot…

This bathroom is teeny tiny, itty bitty. So fortunately, there wasnt a lot of extra space to fill. All of the kids’ bath soaps and toys are in a caddy, nicely hidden by the Most Perfect Shower Curtain Ever; and all of their other necessities fit nicely under the sink. The entire thing cost about $35, which made my husband happy, and its going to be easy to keep clean, which makes me happy!

Happy Earth Day!

I love Earth Day!

I wrote a blog for the company I work for here in honor of today, so check it out!

This morning, Brandi and I took the girls to the Outlet Mall.

We wanted to take them to the Disney store for 2 reasons. One, kids get a free hat today when they recycle 6 cans or bottles. And two, it is my FAVORITE STORE EVER!!!! I turn into a little kid and get more excited over the fun stuff there than most other people. Nathan always laughs at me because I twirl through the store singing the fairy tale songs along with the tv in there. *sigh* I love it.

Anyway, Iris recycled her water bottles and got a hat!

Then I bought THE cutest reusable tote bag normally $20. I got it for $5.

And I used it to get all my baking stuff today because our big bake sale for March of Dimes- Team Hippies for Healthy Babies is this Saturday at the Sam’s Club in Round Rock!!! On the list to bake: chocolate chip cookies, double fudge brownies, peanut butter cookies, sugar cookies, popcorn monster bags (cutest ever!) and homemade fruit rollups!

Let me just say, I have been working on these fruit rollups for over an hour and it seems like they are going to take much longer than the recipe said. Actual cook time is 8-10 hours, but I cant get the consistency I need! I’ll post the site that I got the recipe from after Ive made them and I know they work. lol

We also have a recycling pick up service in our neighborhood, but my problem has been that the big 30-something gallon recycling bin is in the front yard, and I dont like walking out there everytime I have a water bottle to recycle… I also have 3 smaller recycling bins in the garage, but I dont like walking to the garage either. I even started leaving all my recyclables on the counter top until the end of the day, but it just turned intoa  cluttered mess. I needed something convenient so it would be easier for me! So I cleaned out underneath our sink. One side has my cleaning products and the other has a recycling bin. And it is already half full for the day. :) By the way, I just started using more GREEN cleaning products with hesitation because Ive always been skeptical of whether or not they clean better than the “other stuff”. From my own experience, anything Greenworks is AWESOME. And I just started using Seventh Generation dish detergent, and I loooooove it! It doesnt leave soap stains on my dishes. And its pretty inexpensive!

After:

While my fruit rollups are trying to cook, Ive also been going through our PILE of paper and mail, getting ready to put it all in my convenient little  recycle bin, and I have a TON of plastic shopping bags. Ill save some of them for dirty diapers and turn in the rest!

Its a nice day today, so we arent running the AC- just fresh air and open windows!

I love the earth. I love its beauty. I love its Creator. How are you celebrating today?

After 4 days of working on the closet….

…its FINALLY DONE! Man, what a chore!

I had a budget of $15 to organize the closet, so if I would have had more, it would look even better, but I think for $15, it looks PRETTY amazing!

Before (Nathans side)

Before (my side)

Disgraceful, isnt it??? We are not very good at putting clothes and shoes away. Until now. Now I am the Closet Nazi. Everything is to be put back EXACTLY where it came from EVERY time. (thats the plan anyway)

After (Nathans side)

After (my side)

Im so proud :)

Organized the laundry room

I have a very small laundry room. It is the room that leads from our hallway to the garage. You can walk inside but only if one door is open and the garage door is closed. Since our pantry in the kitchen is the smallest place in our whole house, we use the shelves in the laundry room as extra storage for food. It is also home to diapers, wipes, extra plastic bags (for diapers!!), re-usable grocery bags, and extra stuff for Hippie. It usually looks something like this, only usually worse.

Well I hit up my favorite Dollar Store (EEEK!) and bought $4 worth of little baskets. One for Hippie’s stuff, one for extra drink mixes (mainly my teas), laundry stuff, and storage bags. I moved all the food out of here since my next project will be to organize the pantry, and my goal is to keep all food in the pantry. Ill have to get creative there. Anyway, $4 and 15 minutes later, I actually like being in my laundry room. Now Ill have to come up with something to hang on the far wall by the dryer. FUN!

Next, Ill have to get a new washer and dryer. (juuuuuuust kidding honey…. for now…… :) )
