I started writing little books in the 2nd grade, and my teacher at the time was so wonderful about letting me go with my imagination. I wrote in all of my free time. I remember at Christmas time, the whole 2nd grade got together to watch “The Grinch who Stole Christmas” and instead of watching it, I wrote down the entire dialogue. She got a kick out of that.
Iris has been really interested in letters and words lately. She has always loved books, but now she knows her alphabet, all the sounds the letters make and even knows a few words that begin with each letter. She point out words when we are in public, and tells me each of the letters in the word, which just THRILLS me.
One of our new favorite activities is for her to tell me what word she wants to see on paper. I write it out, and when we are done we have a list of some of her favorite words. Then she chooses some of the letters and writes them herself! She actually wrote “Papa” in Nathan’s dad’s Father’s Day card! Wish I had gotten a picture of it!

She also has quite the imagination, so I thought it would be fun to let her start telling me little stories. I can write them down, and then read them to her. And of course, save them forever!
This is the one she “wrote” today.
“Hairbrush”
Once upon a time, there was a brush and a comb. They brushed my hair. The scissors cut all my hair. The blush went on my eyes. Then there was a mirror and a blowdryer. Fluff got his own spot and I did his hair. Then I pretended he was a pillow. We had some muffins and cupcakes and a cake. Then we read a book. Then we played blocks and took a nap.
The end.
God, I love that little girl….
